The Bluff (2026) – Review

In 1846, in The Caribbean, Piracy and Pirates are a dying industry and breed. The few Pirates that are left have yet to find a way out of the life they were born into. Meanwhile they are trolling the seas, looking for their next victims. This evening Captain Connor’s Pirate ship is sneaking up on Captain T.H. Bodden’s (Ismael Cruz Córdova) ship. As they breach Captain Bodden’s ship, take over and start to plunder, Captain Connor notices a familiar gold bar. It used to be his and demands that Captain Bodden tell him where he got it.

Ercell Bodden (Priyanka Chopra Jonas) leads a very quiet life with her son Isaac and sister-in-law Elizabeth (Safia Oakley-Green) on the Cayman Island, Cayman Brac. Cayman Brac got it’s name from the huge limestone bluff that runs the entire length of the southern part of the island, Brac being Gaelic for Bluff. Ercell goes about her daily business, taking care of her son and sister-in-law, patiently waiting for her Husband, Captain Bodden, to come back home from sea. Ercell used to be called by a different name, in a very different life before she settled down in Cayman Brac. She keeps her past hidden from her son and sister-in-law, but on this day as the sun rises over the beautiful sandy beaches of Cayman Brac, it is rising out of the sea to haunt her.

Captain Connor and his bloodthirsty crew of Pirates have come to Cayman Brac, and are looking for Bloody Mary and a stolen treasure chest of Gold bars, one of which Captain Connor had found in Captain Bodden’s possession on his ship. As the pirates head inland to Cayman Brac, the alarm is sounded by the seaside village’s people. They aim to protect their village and people from plundering pirates, and Captain Connor’s pirates are hell bent on getting Bloody Mary and a stolen chest of gold. This is where we find out with our own eyes who Ercell really is and how Bloody Mary got her name.

It is violent, it is bloody and this is not the Disney version of The Pirate’s Of The Caribbean that we are used to seeing. Borders more on a slasher movie as a violent battle between Pirates and Bloody Mary ensues. She sacrifices everything to protect her son and sister-in-law. Priyanka Chopra Jonas is thoroughly convincing as reformed Pirate Bloody Mary trying to protect her family. Her performance as Bloody Marry seems like a cross between Charlize Theron in Atomic Blonde and Jennifer Lopez in The Mother. She definitely lives up to the name Bloody Mary as she protects her family and offers No Quarter to the pirates.

Karl Urban is electric as Captain Connor, playing the ultimate toxic ex from hell with a pirate ship. He perfectly captures the spirit of a disenfranchised, “end of an era” pirate who is bitter, betrayed, and has nothing left in his heart but vengeance. Driven by a past Mary tried to bury, Urban brings a menacing, desperate edge to their rivalry, making it clear he isn’t just after gold—he’s there to reclaim a ghost.

Priyanka Chopra Jonas makes her mark as an action hero to contend with in this hard hitting take on a Pirate’s life, whether you love Swashbuckling Pirate lore, or Thrilling Action Underdog movies, this one is a must stream!
