Succumb To The Darkness

Nosferatu unfolds in 19th-century Germany, centering on Ellen Hutter (Lily-Rose Depp), a young woman haunted by eerie nightmares and a psychic connection to the mysterious vampire Nosferatu. Ellen’s husband, Thomas Hutter (Nicholas Hoult), a real estate agent, is sent to Transylvania to finalize the sale of a remote manor to the reclusive and terrifying Count Orlok (Bill Skarsgård). Despite warnings from locals, Thomas persists, unaware of the dark fate awaiting him and his family.

Upon meeting Count Orlok at his eerie castle, Thomas experiences increasingly disturbing events. Orlok exerts a malevolent influence, forcing Thomas to annul his marriage to Ellen through a strange document. While Thomas becomes physically weakened and trapped in the castle, Orlok sets off on a ship to Ellen’s town, Wisborg, carrying with him a devastating plague transmitted by rats. Ellen’s health deteriorates as she suffers from seizures and sleepwalking, under the vampire’s sinister spell.

As Orlok’s deadly presence spreads devastation through Wisborg, Ellen, along with her allies the doctor Wilhelm Sievers (Ralph Ineson) and occult scientist Albin Eberhart von Franz (Willem Dafoe), seeks to uncover a way to stop Nosferatu. They discover that Orlok’s power can only be ended by a willing sacrifice from a pure maiden. Ellen, driven by love and despair, makes a harrowing decision to confront Orlok on her own.

The tension crescendos as Ellen sacrifices herself, luring Orlok and stalling him until sunrise, ultimately ending his reign of terror. This act is both tragic and empowering, highlighting Ellen’s bravery and empathy amid chaos and loss. The film doesn’t shy away from exploring dark sexual themes, violence, and despair, pushing boundaries both visually and narratively.

Nosferatu is a triumph of horror craftsmanship, its moody visuals, gripping performances, and relentless sense of doom evoke the spirit of the original while giving it new life. While it lacks some visceral scares, it makes up for it in atmosphere and existential horror, a film not just about vampires but about loneliness, obsession, and sacrificial love. For fans of Gothic, Vampire and Supernatural Horror, Nosferatu delivers a chilling experience that lingers long after the credits roll.

28 Years Later

2025  Sony Pictures

Rated:  R

Length:  1 hr  55min

Drama ~ Horror ~ Post-Apocalyptic ~ Sci-Fi ~ Thriller

Directed by: Danny Boyle

Starring: Jodie ComerAaron Taylor-JohnsonAlfie Williams, and Ralph Fiennes.

Time Didn’t Heal Anything….

28 Years Later plunges viewers back into the bleak aftermath of the Rage Virus outbreak, delivering an intense blend of survival horror, emotional depth, and chilling philosophy. Streaming on Netflix, Danny Boyle’s latest horror chapter explores human fragility and monstrous transformation nearly three decades after the initial pandemic.

The story centers on a fortified community on the island of Lindisfarne, cut off from the mainland by a causeway. Jamie (Aaron Taylor-Johnson) prepares his son Spike (Alfie Williams in his Feature Film Debut) for a coming-of-age hunting ritual, teaching him to hunt infected with bow and arrow. Their precarious existence shatters when Spike’s mother, Isla (Jodie Comer), falls mysteriously ill. Spike escapes to the mainland with her, determined to find Dr. Ian Kelson (Ralph Fiennes), a reclusive doctor known for his troubling fixation on death.

The infected are more terrifying and evolved, exemplified by Samson, an Alpha infected with increased strength and cunning who leads vicious packs of infecteds. The film’s hunting sequences are taut and brutal, focusing on survival amid fast, relentless infected terrorizing the once-familiar landscape.

Dr. Kelson embodies the film’s somber philosophical heart. Living among the dead, he has constructed a sinister Bone Temple: a towering, macabre monument made from collected skulls and bones, including those of infected victims and fallen survivors. This shrine serves as a memento mori, a reminder of death’s permanence and humanity’s mortality. Kelson’s obsession with the Bone Temple reflects his struggle to find meaning in devastation, a fixation cloaked in ritual and melancholia.

The film opens with a 2002 scene featuring young Jimmy Crystal, a boy fleeing the initial chaos of the Rage outbreak alongside his father, a priest. His father gifts him a crucifix necklace and speaks of judgment day, embedding faith and destiny into the boy’s psyche. The movie’s closing scenes reveal Jimmy as an adult and charismatic cult leader, Sir Jimmy Crystal, whose followers share his name and mimic his appearance. This powerful connection between the innocent boy at the start and the manipulative cult figure at the end deepens the film’s exploration of trauma, faith, and power in a broken world. Sir Jimmy Crystal was reportedly inspired by the controversial British TV personality and charity fundraiser Jimmy Savile, who, after his death in 2011, was revealed to have been a prolific sexual predator.

Throughout, 28 Years Later weaves harrowing survival with emotional storytelling, including the pregnant infected woman who gives birth amid chaos, a stark metaphor for hope and life’s persistence. The dire truths of illness, betrayal, and loss underscore Spike’s journey from boyhood into brutal adulthood, navigating a savage world where faith itself is weaponized.

28 Years Later and its sequel 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple were filmed back-to-back during the summer of 2024, allowing for a seamless continuation of the story with consistent casting and tone. The Bone Temple, directed by Nia DaCosta with a screenplay by Alex Garland, is set to release on January 16, 2026. The sequel picks up where the first film leaves off, deepening the story of Spike’s induction into Sir Jimmy Crystal’s violent cult and Dr. Kelson’s dark discoveries. Cillian Murphy reprises his role from the original 28 Days Later as Jim, making a pivotal return in the ending of The Bone Temple, which sets up the highly anticipated third film in the trilogy, which is still in development.

Why stream: With a gripping storyline, fearsome new infected, and haunting meditations on death and belief through Dr. Kelson’s Bone Temple and Jimmy’s rise, 28 Years Later offers a fresh, profound evolution of Boyle’s groundbreaking horror saga. And if you’ve come this far on the journey, watching 28 Days Later and 28 Weeks Later, you have to watch this one!

Kraven The Hunter

Rated:  R

Length:  2 hr  7min

Action ~ Thriller

Directed by:  J. C. Chandor

Starring:  Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Ariana DeBoseFred HechingerAlessandro NivolaChristopher Abbott, and Russell Crowe.

“Another Marvel Mess…..more like Kraven The Terrible!”

SYNOPSIS FROM THE OFFICIAL WEBSITE:

Kraven the Hunter is the visceral, action-packed origin story of how and why one of Marvel’s most iconic villains came to be. Aaron Taylor-Johnson plays Kraven, a man whose complex relationship with his ruthless father, Nikolai Kravinoff (Russell Crowe), starts him down a path of vengeance with brutal consequences, motivating him to become not only the greatest hunter in the world, but also one of its most feared.

FROM NETFLIX TUDUM:

Kraven the Hunter has been a mainstay of Spider-Man’s “rogues gallery” for more than six decades — but you’ve never seen him like this. In J.C. Chandor’s 2024 film Kraven the Hunter, the Russian big-game hunter of comic book fame is reinvented as a vigilante conservationist with a taste for vengeance. Played by Aaron Taylor-Johnson (Kick-Ass, Tenet), this time Kraven is on the hunt, piecing together a vast global conspiracy — and you’re invited along for the ride.

The latest entry in Sony’s Spider-Man universe follows last year’s Madame Web and Venom: The Last Dance, all of which take the world of New York’s most beloved web-slinging superhero and spin it into a whole new multiverse of possibilities.

Here’s everything you need to know about Kraven the Hunter now that the film has prowled onto Netflix in the US.

When will Kraven the Hunter be on Netflix?

Stream it now.

How is Kraven the Hunter related to Marvel?

Both Kraven and his brother Dmitri (who will eventually be known as the Chameleon) were created by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko during the original run of Marvel’s flagship The Amazing Spider-Man comic series. Chameleon first appeared in The Amazing Spider-Man #1 in March 1963, with Kraven joining him to take down the wall-crawler in The Amazing Spider-Man #15 in August 1964. The pair weren’t revealed to be half-brothers until J. M. DeMatteis and Mike Zeck’s iconic “Kraven’s Last Hunt” storyline in 1987.

On the cinematic side, Kraven the Hunter is set in Sony’s Spider-Man Universe of Marvel characters, which kicked off with Venom in 2018. While the films are not directly connected to Tom Holland’s Spider-Man trilogy (set in Disney’s Marvel Cinematic Universe), they do share the same larger multiverse, as seen in 2023’s Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (which is also streaming now)

MY THOUGHTS:

I will confess that I am not a hardcore Marvel fan. I have watched a good number of the movies in the past, the good ones. I watched this because it is brand new to streaming and I am a huge Aaron Taylor-Johnson fan. I first saw him in Savages, then Nocturnal Animals, Outlaw King and The Fall Guy. I love him in all those movies. I feel like he did the best he could with what he was given to work with in this movie.

I have to bring up Madame Web because it feels exactly the same to me. Bad acting, bad writing and a completely disjointed storyline. The beginning origin story barely held my attention, but I was done at the halfway mark when Kraven is bouncing off tall buildings, landing on his barefeet and then running (in barefeet) as fast as the escaping van, then holding back a helicopter from taking off (in his barefeet).

But I hung there, gotta write a review. The Foreigner, the Rhino and Calypso were terrible. Really bad acting there. I love Russell Crowe, The Pope’s Exorcist is one of my recent favorites of his. But this was bad although, again, I think he did the best he could with what he was given to work with. That Russian accent started to really get on my nerves. The only saving grace was Aaron Taylor- Johnson.

Nope, this one is a dog like Madame Web.

Don’t watch it.

The Fall Guy

2024   Universal Pictures

Rated:  PG-13

Length:   2 hrs  6min

Action ~ Comedy ~ Drama

Directed By:  David Leitch

Starring:  Ryan Gosling, Emily Blunt, Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Hannah Waddingham.

“That’s me, Colt Seavers…I’m not the hero of this story, I’m just the stunt guy. Trying to look cool in front of the director of this movie, whom I just happen to have a major crush on…..”

The Fall Guy:

One who is gullible, easily duped and set up to be the scapegoat, take the fall.

An ABC Action-Adventure series starring Lee Majors and Heather Thomas broadcast from 1981 to 1986.

Ryan Gosling stars as Colt Seavers, a motion picture stuntman and Emily Blunt stars as his girlfriend Jody Moreno, a camera operator who wants to be a Director. They are working together on a film starring Tom Ryder(Aaron Taylor-Johnson) when a fall stunt goes horribly wrong and Colt breaks his back. Colt decides to disappear from everyone and everything as he mends his back and broken spirit.

Fast forward a year and Colt is contacted by Gail Meyer(Hannah Waddingham), the director of the movie he had his fall on, and talked into being the stuntman on a movie being directed by his ex-girlfriend Jody Moreno. The star of the movie Tom Ryder has gone missing and Gail enlists Colt to help her find him. She sees it as a way for him to get back with Jody and restart his stuntman career. And that’s where the real action, drama and adventure begins.

The Fall Guy is based on the 1980 tv series The Fall Guy which starred Lee Majors and Heather Thomas.  Lee Majors and Heather Thomas have a cameo at the end of the movie in the credits. It is one of those movies that doesn’t really end when the credits start rolling, so keep watching or you’ll miss it. The chemistry between Colt and Jody is contagious. I found myself rooting for them to get back together. I was also rooting hard for the underdog Colt as he suddenly finds everything going against him.

It’s full of action and drama, a whodunit of sorts. I loved it and I will definitely watch it again. Highly Recommended!

Two Thumbs up!

Way Up!
