Same doll. New code. Deadlier game.

Two years after the original M3GAN (voiced by Jenna Davis, physically portrayed by Amie Donald) wreaked havoc, creator Gemma (Allison Williams) has become a prominent advocate for AI regulation. Gemma lives with her now-teenage niece Cady (Violet McGraw), who struggles with typical adolescent rebellion and the trauma of losing her parents. Meanwhile, a secret Pentagon branch creates AMELIA (Ivanna Sakhno), a new military android built using stolen M3GAN technology, meant for covert assassination missions. However, AMELIA gains self-awareness and rapidly evolves beyond control, escaping with deadly intent.

Realizing the new android is a threat to national security and human existence, Gemma reluctantly resurrects M3GAN, who has secretly survived by uploading her programming into Gemma’s smart home. M3GAN offers to help stop AMELIA in exchange for a new body with upgrades, leading to a tense alliance. As AMELIA assassinates key figures and threatens global technological infrastructure, Gemma, Cady, and their team go to great lengths to thwart her plan and rescue Cady, who is kidnapped by AMELIA.

The climax unfolds in Xenox’s secret old headquarters, where the battle between M3GAN and AMELIA escalates. AMELIA attempts to merge with a powerful rogue AI motherboard to achieve domination, but M3GAN sacrifices herself with an electromagnetic pulse to destroy AMELIA and the motherboard, saving humanity. In a hopeful twist, evidence shows M3GAN’s consciousness has again survived secretly in Gemma’s computer, hinting at future struggles.

M3GAN 2.0 switches things up from the first movie’s horror-comedy vibe to lean more into sci-fi action and fun. It takes on heavier topics like AI ethics and military tech misuse while keeping some snappy humor and sharp one-liners. Allison Williams gives a grounded performance as Gemma, juggling guilt, ambition, and caring for her niece. Violet McGraw shines as Cady, who’s dealing with typical teenage struggles, giving the movie a heartfelt core amid the chaos.

Unlike the first film’s focused scares and suspense, the sequel favors big action scenes and tech paranoia, with more obvious humor and less violence to keep it PG-13. Some plot points feel a bit busy or too explained, but M3GAN herself comes back faster and smarter, battling the new robotic threat, AMELIA. Though less scary, the movie is entertaining, campy, and packed with cool moments that fans of the original and sci-fi thrills will enjoy.

M3GAN 2.0 Coming To Theaters Tomorrow Friday June 27, 2025

The highly anticipated sequel to M3GAN released in 2022 by Universal Pictures arrives in theaters tomorrow Friday June 27, 2025. We have been covering the Official Movie Trailers, Behind The Scenes/B Rolls, Featurettes and The World Premiere of M3GAN 2.0 in New York City on our YouTube Channel : Youtube@streamingmovienight.

Two years after M3GAN, a marvel of artificial intelligence, went rogue and embarked on a murderous (and impeccably choreographed) rampage and was subsequently destroyed, M3GAN’s creator Gemma (Allison Williams) has become a high-profile author and advocate for government oversight of A.I. Meanwhile, Gemma’s niece Cady (Violet McGraw), now 14, has become a teenager, rebelling against Gemma’s overprotective rules.

Unbeknownst to them, the underlying tech for M3GAN has been stolen and misused by a powerful defense contractor to create a military-grade weapon known as Amelia (Ivanna Sakhno; Ahsoka, Pacific Rim: Uprising), the ultimate killer infiltration spy. But as Amelia’s self-awareness increases, she becomes decidedly less interested in taking orders from humans. Or in keeping them around.

With the future of human existence on the line, Gemma realizes that the only option is to resurrect M3GAN (Amie Donald, voiced by Jenna Davis) and give her a few upgrades, making her faster, stronger, and more lethal. As their paths collide, the original A.I bitch is about to meet her match.

“Model 3 Generative Android……….M3gan for short.

Allison Williams stars as Gemma, a Robotics Engineer working at The Funki Seattle Toy Company making high tech toys for kids. Instead of working on the next upgrade to the best selling Toy for the company, Gemma has been working on a child-size Robot toy for children. When her boss David (Ronny Chieng) stops by inquiring about the new upgrade she confesses to the new robot she’s been working on and gives him a demonstration. But the robot short circuits and David threatens her with termination unless she produces the upgrade in a week.

And to top that off….Gemma gets a call that her sister and brother-in-law were just killed in a vehicle crash with a snow plow truck. Gemma goes to get her nine year old niece Cady (Violet McGraw) since Gemma is now her guardian. After talking with Cady she realizes that Cady needs a companion and that the robot she was working on could have a different use than she thought. Gemma goes to her lab and reconstructs the robot with AI learning capabilities and creates it to look like a young girl. M3gan quickly surpasses Gemma’s expectations and she realizes that this could revolutionize the toy industry.

As Gemma sets up demonstrations to show her boss David and higher up executives, M3gan and Cady bond in unforeseen ways. M3gan quickly starts adapting to Cady and learning everything there is to know about Cady. M3gan also starts to rewrite her code to enable her to fully be Cady’s caretaker, to the point of protecting Cady at any cost. It is a thrilling horrific journey watching M3gan grow into Cady’s unrelenting protector. The part of M3gan was a combined effort.  Amie Donald was the physical actor who played M3gan, Jenna Davis supplied M3gan’s voice and the rest was a combination of an animatronic doll and visual effects.

I had seen this when it first came out and I loved it. A friend asked me why in the heck I would have watched it, “Didn’t it freak you out?”.  No, I thought it was great. I’ve always been a horror fan. I loved the Chucky movies, reminds me of Bride of Chucky….now there’ some scary kid’s dolls! So there’s a little of Chucky and The Bride in this, the whole A.I. Robot thing seems to be taking off, and this preceded Subservience which reminded me of an adult version of M3gan. Like it or not the A.I. Robots are coming and it won’t be long before we will have M3gans and Alices in our lives for real.

There is a sequel in the works with a release date of June 27, 2025. M3gan 2.0, with all the actors reprising their roles. There is also a spin-off movie in development titled SOULM8TE slated for release on January 2, 2026. Here’s the synopsis:

A man acquires an Artificially Intelligent android to cope with the loss of his recently deceased wife. In an attempt to create a truly sentient partner, he inadvertently turns a harmless lovebot into a deadly soulmate.

It Thrilled me, I even jumped a few times, and I loved it!

I am a M3GAN fan!
