THE MOVIE REVIEW:

Claire Clauster (Michelle Pfeiffer) has a Christmas problem, she feels under-appreciated. Year after year she goes all out, decorating, baking, shopping, planning, cooking, wrapping presents, getting the entire extended family together and keeping them happy and festive. Her husband Nick doesn’t help as much as she would like, but then he is a guy. There is a Best Holiday Mom Contest being held by her favorite TV Talk show hosted by Zazzy Tims. Claire would love nothing more than to be nominated by her children but they are so busy with their lives they forget to nominate her.

As Christmas Eve approaches there are festive fiascos around the house as the family piles in one after another, bringing their own personal dramas with them. Claire also has a long running animosity with the neighbor family next door, the two Mom’s always trying to one up each other during the holidays. The Final straw for Claire comes when the whole family is getting ready to go to a Christmas show in the city. As they are piling into different cars in the rush to go, Claire pops over to her rival neighbor to give her a homemade Christmas goodie bag. With the family all thinking that she is in one of the other cars, they leave Mom Claire behind.

When Claire realizes that her family has left her behind, it was the last straw. She packs a few things as well as some Christmas snacks and heads off in her car. She’s had enough, she is leaving the family. Depressed, frustrated and under-appreciated she hits the road not knowing where she is going. And that’s where the rest of this Festive fiasco takes us, following Claire’s new forlorn, underappreciated Christmas alone and her family’s stark realization that Claire has had enough, packed her bag and hit the road.

As I watched, I couldn’t help but think of Christmas Vacation. I don’t know if it was intentionally paying homage to, or trying to duplicate some of the humorous holiday scenes we all know and love in Christmas Vacation. It was no where near as funny as the classic Christmas Vacation. I feel like it was trying too hard. The names of the characters were a little out there, Eva Langoria as Zazzy Tims? Chloë Grace Moritz brought her girlfriend DJ Sweatpants? Claire’s arch nemesis neighbor Jeanne Wang-Wasserman? Sammy’s girlfriend is named Mae-Bell?

It was alright, a little campy and not as funny as I think they wanted it to be. I think if you are a guy, you are not gonna get it nor like it. If you are a gal, Mom or Grandmother, I think you are going to be right on top of the bandwagon. This Christmas Catastrophe is made for women about women being under-appreciated at the holidays.

There you go!

OH. WHAT. FUN.

Norman’s Rare Guitars

2024   Columbia Pictures

Rated:  Unrated

Length:  1 hr  38min

Documentary

Directed by: Devin J. Dilmore

Starring: Norman Harris and too many Musicians, Guitar Players and Fans to list.

“At his world-famous LA guitar shop, founder Norman Harris reflects on his legacy as legendary musicians sing his praises in this heartfelt documentary.”

Kiefer Sutherland Executive produced the Documentary and worked alongside Columbia Pictures to produce the full length film. Norman’s Rare Guitars was started by Norman Harris, a musician who played and toured in bands in the late 1960’s and early 1970’s. Norm was playing in a band with Bobby Caldwell (of Derek and The Dominoes fame) called Katmandu. Norm saw and purchased a  Vintage Fender Jazz Bass at a really good price. His musician friends soon took an interest in the bass and offered him way more money than he had paid for it. Always looking to supplement his income as a touring musician, he decided to find some more vintage guitar deals that he could make money on. That very quickly escalated into a growing side business that eventually took over every empty space in his house.

Within a couple of years it had become a full time business, and in 1975 he opened his first rare guitar shop in Reseda, California. Eventually outgrowing the Reseda location, he moved to the current location in Tarzana. The documentary takes a look at the history and the current state of Norm’s health and his business. After a recent battle with health issues, Norm has started to wonder about the legacy of the shop and who will run the business when the day comes he is forced to retire. Joe Bonamassa is Norm’s nephew and has had a very large presence in the store over the years. The family speculates and wonders if he might have a hand in it’s legacy after Norms inevitable retirement.

I am a guitar player and a musician, as well as a writer and the Streaming Movie Guy. Just thought you should know that this review is anything but unbiased. There are tons of musicians, guitar playing celebrities and cameos in this film, a who’s who of musicians, and guitar players. The sheer number of vintage guitars that the shop and Norm currently possess is staggering. Just watching the day to day visitors in the shop in itself is fascinating. I absolutely love this documentary, if you have any interest in music, guitars, or vintage guitars it is a must watch. There is a website for the documentary, I’ll post the link below. There is also a Youtube channel that has become very popular with new videos from the store featuring the guests that stop by.

Highly recommended…yes, yes and yes!

Hello!

I just wanted to take a moment and thank you for stopping by our little Movie Review Blog.

As we continue to grow and expand, we are experiencing a few growing pains. Excuse the dust as we remodel and try switching a few things around over the next couple of weeks. There are a few issues we are still trying to get resolved, most notably, integrating the SMN Storefront into our site. Hopefully we can accomplish that soon.

If there is a movie you would like to see reviewed, let us know.

Let us know where you are visiting from.

WordPress just informed us we reached 2000 all time views……

WE TURNED 50!

We turned 50!

Sort of…. WordPress notified us that we have made 50 posts since our inception.

Another milestone, small but significant. We didn’t really envision the future as we started out, just sort of said, “Hey, let’s review some movies. We’re watching enough of them and it will be an exercise in writing more….Ok, here we go.”

Streaming Movie Night has taken on a life of it’s own. It has been and will continue to be a joy to watch as it grows.  We look forward to the future and what the journey will bring. It has already taken twists and turns we didn’t expect but it is very exciting to wonder what directions it will take us next.

And what is the most popular post so far you ask?

The Equalizer 100 Books List with 109 views.

And that’s a new idea for the end of the year TOP TEN LISTS+:
