New Movie The Woman In Cabin 10 Debuts Friday October 10, 2025 On Netflix

FROM NETFLIX:

There’s nothing more relaxing than a trip on a super yacht — unless you happen to witness a murder. That’s the predicament facing Keira Knightley in The Woman in Cabin 10, a new thriller coming to Netflix Friday October 10, 2025. While on a luxury yacht for a travel assignment, a journalist witnesses a passenger tossed overboard late one night, only to be told that she must have dreamed it, as all passengers are accounted for. Despite not being believed by anyone onboard, she continues to look for answers, putting her own life in danger.

Based on the bestselling novel by Ruth Ware, the film is directed by Simon Stone (The Daughter, The Dig), who also co-wrote the script with Joe Shrapnel and Anna Waterhouse (Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe Origins). Even though the movie’s source material came out 10 years ago, Ware believes it’s still resonant because “the fear of not being believed is perennial, unfortunately, Cabin 10, at its heart, is about a woman who experiences something wrong, reports it truthfully, and isn’t taken seriously because of who she is. Too many people know what that feels like and I think we want vindication for ourselves as much as Lo.”

“I am not imagining this,” Lo Blacklock (Keira Knightley) insists in the trailer for The Woman in Cabin 10. A journalist assigned to cover the story of a luxury superyacht’s first voyage, Lo has just seen a woman fall to her death — but no one believes her. Not Richard Bullmer (Guy Pearce), the superyacht’s wealthy owner, nor her fellow passengers, played by the likes of Kaya Scodelario and Daniel Ings. Nevertheless, as you can see in the trailer below for this adaptation of Ruth Ware’s bestselling novel of the same name, Lo refuses to back down. She’s determined to uncover what happened to this mysterious woman even at the risk of her own life. What was supposed to be a cushy assignment for work turns into a twisty and thrilling excursion on the high seas.

Even though Lo is surrounded by naysayers on the boat, writer and director Simon Stone is adamant that there’s no ambiguity here: Something on this yacht isn’t quite right. “You never question whether or not she saw what she saw, you agree completely with her. It’s her struggle against the conspiracy.” You can get a glimpse at a few of the yacht’s other guests in the trailer. In addition to Pearce’s Bullmer, there’s gossipy Heidi (Hannah Waddingham), influencer Grace (Scodelario), media fortune heir Adam (Ings), and Lo’s photographer ally Ben (David Ajala), to name a few. “It’s an incredibly stacked cast,” Stone says. “Keira has led in an extraordinary way, and Guy as well. But the entire ensemble has been amazing.”

As touchpoints for the film, Stone looked at classic ’70s thrillers like Marathon Man, Klute, The Conversation, and Three Days of the Condor. He also cites the work of Alfred Hitchcock — the Master of Suspense’s film The Lady Vanishes shares a great deal of DNA with Ware’s original novel. “Finding that tradition, but with a different gender and a different energy, has been really exciting,” Stone adds.

The Woman in Cabin 10 stars Knightley, Pearce, Ajala, Art Malik, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Scodelario, David Morrissey, Ings, Waddingham, Gitte Witt, Christopher Rygh, Pippa-Bennett-Warner, John MacMillan, Paul Kaye, Amanda Collin, and Lisa Loven Kongsli.

Will Lo uncover the answers she’s looking for and make it back to shore alive? You’ll have to watch The Woman in Cabin 10 when it sails onto Netflix on Oct. 10.

Love is A Journey Worth Taking

THE BOOK:

The Map That Leads To You: A Novel By J. P. Monninger – August 5, 2025

Two strangers take the road less traveled…

Heather Mulgrew’s world is already mapped out: she is going to travel abroad with her friends after college, come back to a great career in September, and head into a life where not much is left to chance. But that was before an encounter on an overnight train introduces her to Jack, a passionate adventurer who changes the course of her journey and her life.

Throwing Heather’s careful itinerary to the wind, they follow Jack’s grandfather’s journal through post-World War II era Europe: Vienna, Budapest, Turkey―exotic places that serve only to heighten their feelings. As September looms, Jack urges Heather to stay with him, to keep traveling, to give in to the romance of their experience; Heather convinces him to return to the United States.
Jack has a secret that could change everything. And Heather’s world is about to be shaken to the core.

FROM AMAZON MGM STUDIOS:

The Map That Leads to You follows Heather (Cline), a young woman setting off on an adventure across Europe with her best friends before settling into her perfectly planned life. When she crosses paths with Jack (Apa), a magnetic and mysterious stranger, their instant spark ignites an emotional journey neither of them expected. As their connection deepens, secrets, life choices, and hidden truths will test their bond—and change her life in ways she never imagined. From director Lasse Hallström (Dear John, Safe Haven) comes this adaptation of JP Monninger’s novel about love, destiny, and the courage to choose your own path.

From the start there’s no doubt Heather likes her ducks neatly in a row. Smart, curious and independent, she is the planner – the one who reads the guidebooks, coordinates the train schedules, makes the reservations and always prepares a cushion for anything that might go astray. Case in point: Heather organized this trip to hit all the major checkpoints and, more importantly, to conclude a requisite two weeks before moving into an apartment in New York City and starting her new job at a prestigious bank. That may be why her friends, though they tease about her meticulous nature, have long accepted it as part of Heather’s personality and what they love about her. Besides, without her on this trip they’d probably end up sleeping in the park and they know it. Amy, for one, has a tough time keeping track of her own passport.

Jack is more of a wild card, whose philosophy on the road is, “We’ll figure it out.” Confident and resourceful, he may have a goal in mind but the details of how he gets from point A to point B can remain vague until the moment they become necessary and he’s not averse to bending the rules.  As Apa explains, “Jack is a traveler. He is smart, spontaneous and looking for adventure. He is always looking for the story behind the story. He cares for people and understands the fragility of life, which is why he prefers to experience life up close and in the moment, not on his phone or on social media.”

Heather and Jack’s contrast is instantly and comically apparent as they exit the train: she’s herding luggage and he’s hands-free, only a well-worn backpack on his shoulders. Despite his sunny nature and playful nature, however, Jack also strikes a subtle note of intrigue and may be harboring a secret he’s not ready – if ever – to share.

It is soon revealed that Jack is retracing an itinerary from a journal passed down to him from his great-grandfather, Russell, a veteran of the Second World War. After nearly losing his life on the battlefield, Russell set off on a post-war tour of personal discovery, visiting points of interest throughout the continent and describing them in this book. These are the places that Jack now wants to see for himself. At first, Jack’s trip appears to be a way of honoring Russell’s life, but as the young man continues to follow in his great-grandfather’s footsteps it becomes something deeper. Russell embarked on his journey after resolving not to waste another minute of his precious life. For Jack, that commitment becomes clearer and more meaningful with every step. And it’s something he strives to share with this extraordinary new woman in his life.

THE REVIEW:

I have not read the book so I can’t draw comparisons there, I will have to judge the movie on it’s own merits. In the beginning it felt a little generic, like a formula Hallmark movie. To be honest I was losing interest quick but the chemistry between the three girlfriends early on started to draw me in. They are definitely a close knit bunch of friends who share everything. As the movie meandered around Europe it still felt pretty generic to me, I wasn’t really getting drawn into the characters emotionally. I really didn’t think much of KJ Apa, again his performance didn’t feel that deep emotionally. Madelyn Cline I though did alright with her role but I feel like it was less than, kind of like a generic Hallmark movie.

I honestly liked Madison Thompson the best out of three girls on the trip. I felt like her character felt the most real to me, although I liked Sofia Wylie as well. Of the Romance movies I have seen and reviewed lately: My Oxford Year, The Life List and The Idea Of You I would have to say that this movie doesn’t compare, again it feels more like a generic Hallmark Movie that you just don’t get that heavily emotionally involved in. Maybe it has more to do with direction than the acting. I just looked back at what I wrote and I have typed “Generic Hallmark Movie” three times.

I think that really sums it up for me, not that good, it was just ok.

Would I watch it again, absolutely not. Would I recommend it, absolutely not.

There are better Romance Movies out there.

Baby Girl

2024   A24

Rated:  R

Length:  1  hr  54min

Drama ~ Romance ~ Erotic Thriller

Directed by:  Halina Reijn

Starring:  Nicole Kidman, Harris Dickinson, Sophie Wilde and Antonio Banderas.

This Christmas Get Exactly What You Want………..

Nicole Kidman stars as Romy Mathis, The High powered CEO of a Robotic Process Automation Company in New York City. Antonio Banderas plays her husband of 19 years Jacob Mathis who is a theater director in the city. In the opening scene we see Jacob and Romy having sex, and then Romy leaves the bedroom and goes into another room. She grabs a laptop, lays on the floor and pleasure’s herself while watching porn. This sets the stage for the movie. Romy and Jacob have been married for nineteen years and as we hear later in the movie, Romy has never experienced an orgasm with Jacob.

Enter Samuel…..

As Romy is headed into work walking down a busy New York Sidewalk, an angry dog runs towards her. Frightened she stops in her tracks as she sees a stranger take something out of his pocket and calm the dog. Romy heads into work and a little while later her assistant Esme (Sophie Wilde) brings in a group of Interns and Romy sees the stranger who calmed the dog outside in the group. During a break Romy sees the stranger, who’s name is Samuel (Harris Dickinson) in the breakroom and approaches him, wanting to know what he had in his pocket to calm the dog. He replies, “A cookie”. Soon Romy seems to see Samuel everywhere and he tells her he wants Romy to be his mentor in the Intern program.

What follows is a confusing game of attraction, sexual fantasies and fetishes between Romy and Samuel. It is an awkward relationship and is never really clear who started it. It leaves you wondering what is really going on the whole time. They seem to be playing a game exploring certain roles, but it isn’t clear who initiated it. It could be Romy, not being satisfied at home and seeing an opportunity to explore her deep sexual desires and fantasies with a young intern, pays Samuel to help her explore those fantasies. Or it could be Samuel, seeing an opportunity to take advantage of Romy’s interest in him and move himself up the company ladder.

Or is it Jacob? I find it hard to believe that for nineteen years, Jacob didn’t realize that his wife and sexual partner was not really fulfilled and living a lie sexually. It seemed odd that Samuel would show up unexpectedly at the house twice and Jacob just didn’t appear that surprised. And the fight that Jacob and Samuel have just didn’t seem that intense to me, it seemed staged. Jacob is a Theater Director and stages plays and works with actors. It is possible that Jacob staged the whole scenario to give his wife a controlled affair to explore her fantasies with someone Jacob trusted to keep their marriage together.

Or was the whole affair staged by Esme who knew Romy and concocted a scheme using Samuel to move herself up the corporate ladder? You could go in any direction with those theories, but it did seem as though Esme approaching Romy to, in essence, blackmail her for a better position at the company was only after Samuel told her about their affair. That kind of rules out Esme having orchestrated the affair.

Whichever way the plot was intended, it does come across as very awkward. I didn’t really feel any great chemistry between Nicole Kidman and Harris Dickinson, either because there wasn’t any or the whole affair was staged to begin with. I have seen Nicole in better sensual erotic movies with more chemistry and feeling. Dead Calm, Birthday Girl and Eyes Wide Shut come to mind. Babygirl also reminds me of Unfaithful with Diane Lane and Richard Gere, although I think Unfaithful is a way better movie.

So to wrap it up, for me it was just ok. The sensuality and fetishes were a bit over the top, I get they were exploring the power and submission thing but it just didn’t feel that real to me. Like a badly staged play. I didn’t think much of Harris’ Dickinson’s acting but then I haven’t seen him in anything else so perhaps it was just the awkwardness of the role in this movie. So yeah, meh……..

FRANKENSTEIN COMES TO LIFE ON NETFLIX!

Netflix is producing a re-make of The Mary Shelley classic Novel Frankenstein. Filming wrapped up September 2024 after shooting in Toronto, Canada and Edinburgh, Scotland. The movie is directed by Guillermo Del Toro and the cast includes Jacob Elordi, Mia Goth (Pearl), Oscar Isaac and Christoph Waltz. The new Frankenstein movie is slated for release November later this year. I love Mia Goth, she is the new Horror Queen in my opinion, and I can’t wait to see her in this.

FROM NETFLIX TUDUM:

By John Dilillo Jan. 30,2025

Guillermo del Toro is building a monster. Fresh off of his third Oscar win for Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio, the writer-director is fulfilling a lifelong dream: making his own adaptation of Mary Shelley’s beloved Gothic novel Frankenstein; or, The Modern Prometheus.

Del Toro has been working on a Frankenstein film for more than a decade. “My favorite novel in the world is Frankenstein,” he told Collider in 2010. “I’m going to misquote it horribly, but the monster says, ‘I have such love in me, more than you can imagine. But, if I cannot provoke it, I will provoke fear.’ ” It’s an idea that inspired del Toro’s career-spanning love for the monsters inside and outside all of us. Now he’s finally returning to the source.

Del Toro’s Frankenstein is adapted from Mary Shelley’s 1818 novel, which she completed at the age of 19, and which he’s cited for years as an inspiration for his work. In his 2018 acceptance speech after winning the BAFTA Award for Best Director for The Shape of Water, del Toro even made time to thank the British Gothic novelist.

“The most important figure from English legacy is, incredibly, for me, a teenager by the name of Mary Shelley, and she has remained a figure as important in my life as if she were family,” del Toro said. “And so many times when I want to give up, when I think about giving up, when people tell me that dreaming of the movies and the stories I dream are impossible, I think of her.”
