Netflix is raising prices again amid record subscriber base numbers.
In the last quarter Netflix added a record 19 million subscribers thanks to it’s recent venture into the Live Sports Market. The Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson Bout on November 15, 2024 drew an estimated 65 million viewers, and ranks as one of the most watched broadcasts alongside The Olympics and The Super Bowl. Netflix has started to secure streaming rights to NFL Games and WWE Matches. Amazon Prime Video and YouTube are also following in Netflix’s path by entering into the Sports Streaming Arena. Netflix currently leads the Streaming Platform World with over 300 million subscribers, and is currently worth more than Disney, Comcast, Paramount and Warner Bros. put together.
Along with their recent quarterly earnings report, Netflix announced plans to raise the subscription price of all their subscription tiers:
- The Ad supported Plan is increasing from $6.99 to $7.99 per month ($1 increase)
- The Ad Free Plan is increasing from $15.49 to $17.99 per month ($2.50 increase)
- The Premium Tier is increasing from $22.99 to $24.99 per month ($2.00 increase)
Looking at that I just realized that once again…..the middle class takes the biggest hit. It’s almost as if they looked at the numbers and said, “GREAT!…..BUT….WE NEED MORE, More, More…..” And that is exactly how a pretty big percentage of Netflix subscribers feel. According to a poll by Civic Science last October, almost 40 percent of Netflix Subscribers said they would cancel their subscriptions if Netflix did indeed raise their prices anytime soon.
The Streamflation seems to continue across all streaming platforms as price hikes keep happening. It makes you wonder if, when and where it will stop. And how long can the average household keep up? Since the pandemic, streaming has been the one entertainment household budget necessity. But at what point will basic necessities override the streaming need and we all cut back…..or are we already at that threshold?
Are you a Netflix Subscriber and what do you think?
Stay or Nay?
