New Movie A Merry Little Ex-mas Debuts on Netflix Wednesday November 12, 2025

Alicia Silverstone (Reptile, Clueless) is decking the halls for A Merry Little Ex-Mas, the latest addition to the Netflix holiday-verse you can add to your annual watch list. From director Steve Carr (Daddy Day Care) and writer Holly Hester (The Royal Treatment), A Merry Little Ex-Mas also stars Oliver Hudson, Jameela Jamil, Pierson Fode, and Melissa Joan Hart. The film, executive produced by Silverstone, along with Hart and her mother, Paula Hart, premieres Wednesday Nov. 12 on Netflix.

FROM NETFLIX TUDUM:

Kate (Silverstone) is recently divorced, and hoping for a picture-perfect family Christmas one last time before she sells her house. Unfortunately, her dreams of a nostalgic holiday break are dashed when her ex-husband, Everett (Hudson), unexpectedly introduces his young and successful new girlfriend into the mix. But, hey, what’s the holiday season without a little mischief?

Director Carr says that Kate’s journey is one that leads her to reflect on the good things in life she already has. “Like George in It’s a Wonderful Life, when something big happens to shake up your life, it changes your point of view, and you realize the life you have is the one you’re meant to have,” Carr tells Tudum.

“This was a dream-come-true cast,” Hart tells Tudum about her co-stars. “It’s a mystery to me how Alicia and I have somehow never even met until now, considering we have so much and so many people in common. Oliver is one of the funniest men I’ve ever met … Jameela I was dying to work with, and we hit it off like BFFs immediately. And Pierson’s a complete pro and such a joy on set!”

Fifty Shades Of Grey Movies: Story & Timeline

The Fifty Shades trilogy of erotic romance novels was written by British author E. L. James, the pen name of Erika Mitchell. The trilogy includes Fifty Shades of Grey (2011), Fifty Shades Darker (2012), and Fifty Shades Freed (2012). The books trace the evolving relationship between college graduate Anastasia Steele and wealthy entrepreneur Christian Grey, exploring themes of BDSM alongside romance and emotional connection. E. L. James started writing the series as a response to the Twilight saga and initially published it as fan fiction before developing it into an original series. The books became a major global phenomenon, selling over 150 million copies worldwide and setting a record as the fastest selling paperback in the UK. Despite criticism over prose style and depiction of BDSM, the series topped bestseller lists and led to a successful film franchise. James described the trilogy as “my midlife crisis, writ large.” Besides the original trilogy, James also published companion novels retelling the story from Christian Grey’s perspective.

Fifty Shades of Grey (2015)

College graduate Anastasia Steele (Dakota Johnson) interviews wealthy billionaire Christian Grey (Jamie Dornan) and is drawn into his intense, secretive world of S&M and dominance. As Christian introduces Ana to his particular brand of erotic desires, the two explore a complex and steamy relationship that challenges Ana’s boundaries and emotions while revealing Christian’s troubled past. Their evolving romance is as much about emotional connection as it is about physical exploration.

Fifty Shades Darker (2017)

Ana Steele (Dakota Johnson) and Christian Grey (Jamie Dornan) attempt to build a relationship on trust and compromise after breaking up due to Christian’s controlling tendencies. Their renewed romance faces external threats including Christian’s mysterious past and a former submissive seeking revenge. Ana must navigate darker secrets and emotional turmoil while trying to keep their love alive against growing dangers.

Fifty Shades Freed (2018)

Ana (Dakota Johnson) and Christian (Jamie Dornan) are newlyweds but their bliss is threatened by secrets from Christian’s past and a hostile adversary targeting their lives. Facing both domestic challenges and external threats, their marriage is tested in ways that reveal deeper layers of love, forgiveness, and strength. The trilogy’s conclusion blends steamy romance with suspense and emotional resolution.

Every gamble is more than just a game.

Lord Doyle (Colin Farrell) is a troubled British gambler trying to escape his past and mounting debts in the opulent casinos of Macau. Doyle’s world is defined by risk and uncertainty, and his fortunes shift with every card he plays. Amidst the neon glow, he strikes up an unlikely connection with Dao Ming (Fala Chen), a casino worker who offers him both sympathy and subtle guidance. Their relationship brings moments of genuine warmth, even as Doyle struggles to find meaning and redemption in his turbulent lifestyle.

The film explores Doyle’s evolving relationships and the emotional costs of living on the edge. Dao Ming (Fala Chen) acts as a confidant and a compass, while Cynthia (Tilda Swinton) exposes Doyle’s vulnerability and forces him to reconsider his choices. Each encounter pushes Doyle closer to facing the consequences of his actions, making his journey through Macau both suspenseful and introspective.

Colin Farrell delivers an engaging and nuanced portrayal of a flawed, desperate gambler, while Fala Chen and Tilda Swinton add depth and intrigue to the story. The film’s stylish depiction of Macau’s casino world, combined with its blend of dark humor and emotional depth, creates a unique cinematic experience. Frankenstein

2025   Netflix

Rated:  R

Length:  2 hr  29min

Epic ~ Gothic Drama ~ Fantasy ~ Gothic Horror ~ Sci-Fi

Directed by:  Guillermo del Toro

Starring:  Oscar Isaac, Jacob Elordi, Mia Goth, Felix KammererDavid BradleyLars MikkelsenChristian ConveryCharles Dance, and Christoph Waltz.

Life sparked. Death unleashed.

Only Monsters Play God.

In 1857, the Arctic ice traps a Danish expedition vessel whose crew discovers Victor Frankenstein (Oscar Isaac) badly wounded on the frozen wasteland. Victor warns them of a powerful Creature (Jacob Elordi) hunting him relentlessly. Inside the warmth of the Captain’s cabin, Victor begins to tell his harrowing story, a tale of ambition and loss that led to this desperate moment.

Victor grew up under the stern hand of his father, Baron Frankenstein (Charles Dance), and the death of his beloved mother (Mia Goth) left deep scars. Encouraged by grief and driven by an obsessive desire to conquer death, Victor pursues radical medical experiments. With funding from an arms dealer, Henrich Harlander (Christoph Waltz), Victor creates a gruesome but brilliant new life form, hoping it will change humanity forever.

Victor’s creation, part man, part monster, is awakened amid a storm and darkness, but the being’s emergence unleashes consequences Victor had never imagined. The Creature struggles to understand its own existence while Victor wrestles with guilt and fear. Around them, loyalties and betrayals form, as Elizabeth (Mia Goth), Victor’s love interest, and William (Felix Kammerer), his brother, navigate the tangled web Victor’s ambition has spun.

As Victor’s world spirals into chaos, the bond between creator and creation becomes more complicated and threatening. The story explores themes of family pain, societal rejection, and the dangerous thirst for power, all set amid the haunting grandeur of Victorian-era landscapes. This is not just a monster story, it is a deeply emotional and dark journey of both man and what he dares to create. Del Toro’s Frankenstein stands as a towering epic in monster cinema, a visually stunning and emotionally resonant reimagining of Mary Shelley’s classic tale. Del Toro’s signature style shines through in every frame, blending dark gothic horror with profound humanity and complex character dynamics.

Oscar Isaac delivers a commanding and layered performance as Victor Frankenstein, capturing the scientist’s obsessive brilliance and profound torment. Jacob Elordi’s Creature is both terrifying and tragically sympathetic, bringing depth to the monstrous figure beyond mere horror iconography. Mia Goth impressively anchors dual roles with nuance and intensity, embodying pivotal influences on Frankenstein’s psyche. Christoph Waltz’s portrayal of the calculating Henrich Harlander adds a sinister sophistication to the narrative. Overall, the ensemble cast elevates Del Toro’s monstrous creation, making this Frankenstein an unforgettable cinematic journey that balances spectacle with deeply felt performances.
