Ghosted (2023) – Review

Ghosted is a romantic action‑comedy where earnest farmer Cole Turner (Chris Evans) falls hard for enigmatic Sadie Rhodes (Ana de Armas) after a perfect first date, only to be abruptly ignored and convinced he has been Ghosted. Determined to prove the spark was real, he tracks her down using a small clue she left behind and impulsively flies overseas to surprise her, only to be kidnapped by criminals who mistake him for a legendary CIA operative known as “The Taxman.”

Dragged into a deadly conspiracy, Cole discovers that Sadie is in fact the real “Taxman,” a hardened CIA agent whose globe‑trotting life of secrets could not be further from his grounded, small‑town routine. Forced to pose as the superspy everyone thinks he is, Cole becomes unwanted bait in a mission to stop suave arms dealer Leveque (Adrien Brody) from selling a stolen bioweapon called “Aztec” to the highest bidder.

As they hurtle from one dangerous situation to another—chases, shootouts, and double‑crosses on land, sea, and air—Cole’s anxious, talkative energy clashes with Sadie’s ruthless efficiency and tightly guarded emotions. Their bickering chemistry is tested by escalating peril, from hit squads and rival operatives to high‑pressure interrogations that Cole is wildly unprepared to handle, even as he keeps trying to prove he is more than just a frightened civilian in over his head.

Along the way, the pair cross paths with shady contacts and colorful killers, including middleman Marco (Marwan Kenzari), relentless henchman Wagner (Mike Moh), and buyer Mr. Utami (Stephen Park), all circling the lucrative Aztec deal. With the clock ticking toward a catastrophic sale, Cole and Sadie must figure out how to work together, deciding whether they are simply a disastrous first date gone wrong or something real worth fighting for in the middle of a world‑saving, bullet‑dodging adventure!

Ghosted is a fun, easy‑to‑watch movie thanks to the star power and chemistry of Chris Evans and Ana de Armas, blending rom‑com banter with glossy action in a way that feels like a throwback to old‑school date‑night adventure films. The contrast between Cole’s everyday, slightly hapless charm and Sadie’s hyper‑competent spy persona gives the film a playful energy, while the fast pacing, globe‑trotting, and over‑the‑top scenarios keep it entertaining even when the plot seems familiar.
