The Book
Wuthering Heights (2026) is based on The Novel Wuthering Heights by Emily Brontƫ published under the pen name Ellis Bell in 1847.

When Heathcliff, a poor young boy, is adopted into wealthy Catherine Earnshaw’s family, he and Catherine form a bond that progresses from childhood friendship to teenage passion. Because of Heathcliff’s lowly social status, however, Catherine decides she cannot marry him, and instead marries the gentleman Edgar Linton. This sets in motion a chain of events that ravages both the Linton and Earnshaw families with jealousy, revenge, and bitterness, leaving only the ghosts of Catherine and Heathcliff to haunt the moors.
Wuthering Heights (2026) – Review
Emily BrontĆ«’s novel Wuthering Heights spans two generations of the Earnshaw and Linton Families, while Emerald Fennel’s Wuthering Heights (2026)Ā stops at the tragic midpoint, cutting out the entire second generation storyline. Instead of a sweeping historical saga, it’s more of a focused dark, sexual fantasy about two people, Catherine and Heathcliff played by Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi. Emerald Fennel wanted to reinterpret the story to recreate the feeling of a teenager reading the book for the first time.
It is very dark, Victorian and Gothic with a modern soundtrack by Charli XCXĀ that makes it feel more like a Neon-Gothic stage play or a dark fever dream than a traditional period movie. Trading historical accuracy for emotional intensity, Wuthering Heights (2026) is less about the sprawling history of the Yorkshire moors and more about the intense, claustrophobic toxicity between Catherine and Heathcliff. Between the soundtrack, the star power and the modern dialogue it feels more like a Gen-Z Gothic punk rock melodrama.
Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi’s raw, physical intensity and chemistry isn’t sweet and romantic, it is highly combustible. Margot Robbie perfectly emulates the “Madonna”, the proper refined lady of the house who, internally, is a total hurricane of obsession and self-destruction. Jacob Elordi plays Heathcliff with a quiet, menacing stillness that grows darker at every turn, like a man ready to burn it all down if he can’t have what he wants. Margot and Jacob transform a very passionate relationship into pure destructive, vengeful chaos right before our eyes.
Ultimately, this isn’t a traditional epic for the ages; itās a high-fashion, high-octane autopsy of a toxic relationship. It prioritizes the “vibe” over the verity, trading generational scope for a claustrophobic look at two beautiful, broken people. If youāre looking for a dusty period piece, look elsewhereābut if you want to watch the “Madonna of Chaos” and her “Heathcliff” burn the moors down to a pop beat, this is the circus for you.
