Saoirse Ronan‘s Dark Comedy ‘Bad Apples’ comes home to Rent
Earning rave reviews for its sharp-witted, caustic humor since its major film festival runs, the film serves as a wild, fictional cautionary tale for anyone who has ever reached their absolute limit with a stressful job.
Maria Spencer (played by four-time Academy Award nominee Saoirse Ronan), a dedicated primary school teacher in Somerset, UK, is desperately trying to inspire her class of 10-year-olds.
Her career and sanity are pushed to an absolute breaking point by Danny Carter (Eddie Waller), an unruly, chaotic, and relentlessly foul-mouthed student who completely derails the entire classroom.
Following a particularly intense, late-night confrontation, Maria makes a series of highly questionable decisions that result in her accidentally taking the troubled student and locking him directly inside her home basement!
While a panicked Maria tries to figure out a way to safely backtrack and return him, a massive twist occurs: without the “bad apple” disrupting the daily routine, the rest of her classroom suddenly starts flourishing academically.
With parents thrilled by the sudden improvement and school inspectors throwing immense praise her way, Maria finds herself trapped in a hilarious, deeply complicated moral web.
Directed by rising Swedish filmmaker Jonatan Etzler and written by Jess O’Kane, the dark comedy features a fantastic lineup of recognizable dramatic talent:
- Saoirse Ronan as the highly stressed teacher, Maria Spencer
- Eddie Waller as the infamous classroom terror, Danny Carter
- Jacob Anderson (Interview with the Vampire, Game of Thrones) as Maria’s partner, Sam
- Nia Brown, Rakie Ayola, Robert Emms, and Sean Gilder rounding out the stellar neighborhood cast
Bad Apples is Rated R, 1 hr 40min long and comes to Premium Video On Demand (PVOD) Tuesday November 3, 2026!
