The first footage has officially dropped for Digger, the highly anticipated satirical black comedy from four-time Academy Award-winning director Alejandro G. Iñárritu. Scheduled to hit theaters globally on October 2, 2026, the film serves as the explosive first project to emerge from Tom Cruise’s massive strategic pact with Warner Bros. Pictures.
Promoted as a “comedy of catastrophic proportions”, the movie marks a massive, unpredictable departure for Cruise, trading his death-defying Mission: Impossible stunts for total character actor chaos.
The film follows Digger Rockwell (Tom Cruise), a Texan oil tycoon and arguably the most powerful man in the world. When his company’s rig triggers a historic environmental disaster, Rockwell refuses to take the blame. Instead, he embarks on a frantic, delusion-fueled global mission to convince the public—and world leaders—that he is actually humanity’s ultimate savior before his own catastrophe destroys the planet.
Tom Cruise reportedly undergoes a significant physical transformation, wearing heavy makeup to look unrecognizable, featuring a prominent pot belly and thinning, combed-over hair, and speaking with a thick Southern accent. Beyond Cruise, the heavy-hitting cast features Jesse Plemons, Sandra Hüller, John Goodman, Riz Ahmed, Sophie Wilde, and Emma D’Arcy.
Warner Bros. kickstarted the marketing campaign by dropping a unique “Tom Cruise Retrospective“ teaser trailer. The promo highlights his legendary 46-year career—including past Warner Bros. staples like Edge of Tomorrow and Magnolia—before jarringly cutting into the chaotic, pitch-black humor of Digger.
