Hans Zimmer and A.R. Rahman Ignite the Most Expensive Indian Epic in Theaters Thursday
Sony Pictures Entertainment is releasing Ramayana: Rise of a Legend into theaters worldwide just in time for Diwali on Thursday, November 5, 2026.
Directed by acclaimed filmmaker Nitesh Tiwari, this monumental first installment of a planned two-part mythological saga has cemented itself in the history books as the most expensive Indian film ever made.
Based on the ancient, celebrated epic known to billions, the cinematic event follows Prince Rama (Ranbir Kapoor), a legendary prince bound by unyielding duty, sacrifice, and righteousness.
The high-stakes narrative explodes when the immortal demon king Ravana (Yash), born from fire and unbridled fury, orchestrates a terrifying plot that threatens to shatter the perfect order of the cosmos.
Prince Rama is forced to embark on an arduous, world-spanning journey across spectacular golden temples and celestial landscapes to rescue his love and destroy the encroaching darkness.
The film utilizes a jaw-dropping 3D hybrid animation and live-action style designed to compete directly with Hollywood’s biggest blockbusters.
The breathtaking visual effects are being brought to life by DNEG, the multi-Academy Award-winning VFX powerhouse studio celebrated for their immersive work on Dune and Interstellar.
In a massive creative coup, Ramayana features a historic crossover musical score composed by a dream-team pairing of two Academy Award winners: Hollywood master Hans Zimmer (The Lion King, Dune) and global music icon A.R. Rahman (Slumdog Millionaire).
The film features an absolute powerhouse assembly of pan-Indian acting talent, starring Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama, Yash as the menacing Ravana, and Sai Pallavi as Sita, alongside Sunny Deol, Ravi Dubey, and Lara Dutta.
Ramayana: Rise of a Legend is rated PG-13, is 3 hours and 15 minutes long and comes to theaters Thursday November 5, 2026!
