Sisterly Roasts & Silent Crushes: Two Brand-New Film Clips for ‘Sense and Sensibility’ (2026)
Focus Features and Working Title are gearing up to bring Jane Austen’s timeless masterpiece back to the big screen with a vibrant, punchy new energy. Ahead of its exclusive theatrical release next Friday, October 16, 2026, two brand-new film clips have dropped, perfectly capturing the core contrast of the story: the razor-sharp social satire of the period and the deeply moving bond between the Dashwood sisters.
Directed by BAFTA nominee Georgia Oakley, these snippets highlight why stars Daisy Edgar-Jones and Esmé Creed-Miles are the perfect duo to lead this new generation of Austen fans.
You Hate Her Too
The first clip, titled “You Hate Her Too,” zeros straight in on the dry, savage humor that makes Austen’s world so enduring. In the scene, the passionate Marianne Dashwood (Esmé Creed-Miles) lets loose on their greedy, superficial sister-in-law, Fanny Dashwood, ruthlessly joking that Fanny probably intends to sell off their family books because she has likely never read a single page in her entire life.
While the deeply practical Elinor (Daisy Edgar-Jones) tries to keep the peace and warns Marianne that basic politeness isn’t “begging,” Marianne stubbornly refuses to compromise her pride. It prompts Elinor to drop the ultimate deadpan reality check and sisterly burn: “Well, I am sure you’ll feel very dignified living in a ditch.”
I Think Very Highly Of Him
The second clip, “I Think Very Highly of Him,” shifts focus to the quiet, agonizing tension of unexpressed love. Elinor tentatively admits her growing romantic feelings for Edward Ferrars to Marianne.
True to her practical nature, Elinor tries her absolute hardest to downplay her attachment, carefully stating that she merely “esteems” and “likes” him. Marianne, completely dissatisfied with her sister’s overly safe, emotionally guarded response, refuses to let her off the hook, leading to a hilariously relatable, high-energy pillow fight between the two sisters.
Georgia Oakley’s adaptation infuses the classic 1811 text with a fresh, modern comedic rhythm without losing an ounce of its historical romance. Alongside Edgar-Jones and Creed-Miles, the stellar ensemble cast includes Caitríona Balfe, George MacKay, Frank Dillane, and Fiona Shaw.
