Focus Features brings Georgia Oakley’s Sense and Sensibility To Theaters Friday
Directed by rising filmmaker Georgia Oakley (Blue Jean) and adapted by screenwriter Diana Reid, this vibrant new cinematic take on Jane Austen’s legendary 1811 novel promises a bold, emotionally rebellious film heavily inspired by Portrait of a Lady on Fire.
The classic romantic drama stars Daisy Edgar-Jones (Twisters, Normal People) as the pragmatic, guarded Elinor Dashwood, and Esmé Creed-Miles (Hanna) as her fiercely passionate, romantic sister Marianne.
Following their family’s sudden, devastating financial ruin, the sisters are forced to navigate the rigid, unforgiving social and romantic expectations of 19th-century English society.
Georgia Oakley’s adaptation infuses the classic 1811 text with a fresh, modern comedic rhythm without losing an ounce of its historical romance.
Alongside Edgar-Jones and Creed-Miles, the stellar ensemble cast includes Caitríona Balfe, George MacKay, Frank Dillane, and Fiona Shaw.
Sense and Sensibility is rated PG, 2 hr 12min long and comes to theaters Friday October 16, 2026.
