The Breadwinner coming To Theaters Friday May 29, 2026!
Starring record-shattering comedian Nate Bargatze in his first feature film, THE BREADWINNER stars Bargatze as top car salesman Nate Wilcox and Mandy Moore as Katie, his brilliant wife. To Nate and their three children, Katie is the ultimate mom—she manages their comically chaotic household with equal parts efficiency and love, and everything runs perfectly. When her household invention leads to a once-in-a-lifetime “Shark Tank” deal and a subsequent business trip, Nate has to figure out how to keep the house from (literally) falling apart. He and his kids soon learn that while he may not do it like Mom, he can figure out how to do it his way. Welcome to the dad era.
Joining Bargatze and Moore in the cast are Colin Jost as stay-at-home dad, Conor; Zach Cherry as Nate’s demanding boss, Dan; Martin Herlihy as food delivery driver-turned-confidant, Peter; Kate Berlant as Conor’s wife, Angela; with Kumail Nanjiani as Nate’s competitive co-worker Peyton; and Will Forte as the not-so-professional-roofer, Keegan. THE BREADWINNER also welcomes to the cast a trio of young actors who portray Nate and Katie’s daughters: Stella Grace Fitzgerald as the oldest, Gracie; Birdie Borria as the brainy middle sibling, Hadley; and Charlotte Ann Tucker as the adorable Sam.
Directed by Eric Appel from a script by Nate Bargatze & Dan Lagana, THE BREADWINNER is produced by Jeremy Latcham, Bargatze and Lagana. Executive producers are JoAnn Perritano, Michael Musgrave and Tyler Zacharia. According to Bargatze, the film is reminiscent of classic family-friendly comedies. “We loved those comedies from the ’80s and ’90s that were very fun, relatable and something you’d still watch today,” he says. “That was my goal—to create something like that. I want everybody to go have a fun family day and see this movie in a theater.”
