The Runner is officially sprinting onto Prime Video this Wednesday, September 2, 2026.
If you feel like this major release crept up on you out of nowhere, you aren’t alone. Despite starring global powerhouse Gal Gadot, the promotional rollout for this high-octane flick has been surprisingly quiet—but for very good reason.
Production behind The Runner faced unprecedented hurdles when leading lady Gal Gadot severely broke her foot just two weeks before the cameras were set to wrap. Sidelined on crutches, Gadot was forced to delay heavy press tours, physical promotional junkets, and early photo ops. Thankfully, the star made a triumphant, unassisted recovery just in time to walk the red carpet at the film’s official Los Angeles premiere on August 27.
Additionally, director Kevin Macdonald opted for a highly experimental, guerrilla filmmaking approach. To capture raw, authentic tension, the crew filmed Gadot physically sprinting through busy, active London streets without shutting them down to the public. To maintain the reality of the shoot, the studio deliberately avoided a massive Hollywood footprint during production.
Written as a relentless, real-time race against the clock, The Runner follows Maia Marten (Gal Gadot), a high-powered London lawyer whose routine morning jog turns into a living nightmare. When her son is suddenly kidnapped, a mysterious, omniscient caller (voiced by Damian Lewis) forces her to follow a series of cryptic, escalating commands across the city. If she stops running, or if she contacts the police, her son dies.
