Amazon MGM Studios releases Official Trailer & Poster for Colleen Hoover’s ‘Verity’
The trailer introduces us to Lowen Ashleigh (Dakota Johnson), a struggling, financially strapped writer on the brink of ruin. Her luck seemingly changes when she is hired for the job of a lifetime by Jeremy Crawford (Josh Hartnett).
Jeremy is the devoted husband of Verity Crawford (Anne Hathaway), a wildly successful author who has been left completely incapacitated and non-verbal following a catastrophic car accident.
Lowen’s assignment is simple: move into the sprawling, isolated Crawford home to sort through Verity’s notes and finish the remaining books in her blockbuster series.
While digging through Verity’s chaotic office, Lowen uncovers a hidden, unfinished autobiographical manuscript. As she reads on, she uncovers chilling, graphic admissions about the Crawford family’s past tragedies—including the deaths of the couple’s daughters.
The trailer builds to a fever pitch as Lowen becomes romantically entangled with Jeremy, all while becoming utterly consumed by the manuscript. She is left to wonder: Is Verity truly trapped in her own mind, or is she playing a deadly, performative game from her bedside?
Amazon MGM Studios is leaning heavily into the adult, provocative nature of the book. The film has officially secured a hard R rating from the MPA for strong sexual content, nudity, language, and bloody violence—assuring fans that the story’s most infamous and controversial elements haven’t been watered down for the big screen.
The project reunites Anne Hathaway with director Michael Showalter, who recently helmed her romantic hit The Idea of You. The screenplay was penned by Nick Antosca, a master of television horror and true crime (The Act, Channel Zero, Candy), which explains the trailer’s intensely dark, elevated visual style.
Verity is produced by Nick Antosca, Alex Hedlund, Stacey Sher, Michael Showalter, and Jordana Mollick, alongside executive producers Anne Hathaway and Colleen Hoover herself. The supporting cast features Ismael Cruz Córdova, Brady Wagner, and Nathan Tylutki.
Verity comes to theaters October 2, 2026.
