Under the light of the Full Moon, Focus Features drops Werwulf Second Trailer!
Just as the day gave way to night, and the Full moon lit up the dark night sky, Focus Features dropped the second trailer for Werwulf!
Written and directed by master of historical accuracy and psychological dread Robert Eggers (The Witch, The Lighthouse, Nosferatu), the R-rated film promises an uncompromising, pitch-black look into folklore that completely strips away decades of Hollywood werewolf clichés.
Set against the bleak, mud-soaked landscape of 14th-century England during the height of the Black Plague, the story follows an isolated, starving monastic order trying to maintain spiritual purity amidst a collapsing world.
The second trailer introduces the horrifying reality of their isolation as a primal, shapeshifting lycanthropic entity begins aggressively picking the brothers apart from the shadows of the surrounding ancient forests.
The trailer highlights Eggers’ trademark commitment to period authenticity, using natural candle and fire lighting to craft an environment of suffocating claustrophobia.
The highlight of the trailer comes via a spine-chilling, whispered incantation over a bleeding monk: “Thy soule is cursid. Drede thou not the derkness. Embrace thou it.”
Werwulf stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Willem Dafoe, Lily-Rose Depp, Ralph Ineson and Bodhi Rae Breathnach.
