Searchlight Pictures Debuts Second Trailer for Martin McDonagh’s ‘Wild Horse Nine’

Written and directed by Academy Award-winner Martin McDonagh (The Banshees of Inisherin, In Bruges, Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri), the dark comedy political thriller is sprinting toward theaters with immense critical momentum following a highly celebrated world premiere at the Venice Film Festival.

Set during the tense geopolitical climate directly preceding the real-world 1973 Chilean coup, the film follows two bickering, long-time CIA partner agents: Chris (played by John Malkovich) and Lee (played by Sam Rockwell). The duo are abruptly dispatched to the remote isolation of Easter Island by their increasingly frantic bureau chief, MJ (played by Steve Buscemi).

Tasked with a covert, high-stakes mission to covertly destabilize regional democratic systems, Chris and Lee quickly realize they are entirely out of their depth. The trailer highlights McDonagh’s signature razor-sharp, pitch-black dialogue as the two veteran operatives trade toxic barbs and spiral into complete paranoia amidst the island’s iconic, giant stone Moai statues.

In true McDonagh fashion, the production relies heavily on an extraordinary ensemble cast of eccentric character actors. Joining the central trio of Malkovich, Rockwell, and Buscemi are music icon Tom Waits, Parker Posey, Mariana di Girolamo, and Ailín Salas.
