DC’s ‘Clayface’ Makes History With Official R-Rating as Striking New Poster Drops
DC Studios is officially getting ready to unleash a nightmare just in time for the Halloween season. Coinciding with Batman Day celebrations, studio head James Gunn has revealed a gloriously unsettling new theatrical poster for Clayface (2026) alongside a major milestone for the upcoming film.
The MPAA has officially handed Clayface a hard R-rating for “strong bloody violence, gore, language, some nudity, and brief drug use.” This marks a massive historic shift for the franchise, serving as the very first R-rated theatrical horror thriller in the newly established DC Universe.
Directed by James Watkins (Speak No Evil) with a story co-written by horror maestro Mike Flanagan, the film stars Tom Rhys Harries as Matt Hagen. Hagen is a rising Hollywood star who is tragically disfigured by a local crime boss.
In a desperate bid to restore his career and appearance, he volunteers for an experimental scientific treatment that alters his biology, turning his body into living clay and sending him on a visceral, shape-shifting revenge spree.
