The Yellow Underlings Conquer Old Hollywood and Unleash Total Mayhem!
Universal Pictures and Illumination have officially dropped the final, hilarious trailer for Minions & Monsters (familiarly known as Minions 3)! Fresh off its grand world premiere at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival on June 21, 2026, this cinematic prequel is locked to blitz into nationwide theaters and IMAX screens on Wednesday, July 1, 2026.
Setting itself roughly 40 years before the original Minions film, the narrative takes us backward in time to the vibrant, experimental Golden Age of 1920s Old Hollywood.
The story introduces James (voiced by Pierre Coffin), an extraordinarily imaginative, movie-obsessed Minion who dreams of conquering the silver screen. Alongside his loyal, overalls-wearing buddies Henry and Ed, the trio lands work at a fledgling movie studio. However, after getting unceremoniously fired by an eccentric, larger-than-life European auteur director named Max, the Minions stubbornly decide to independently finance and script their very own monster movie.
The production goes hilariously off the rails when the clumsy film crew uses a stolen spellbook to research creature designs, accidentally summoning actual, terrifyingly massive monsters straight into the studio backlots! Suddenly forced to save the planet from a catastrophic mess of their own making, the Minions must band together to capture the beasts—while keeping the cameras rolling to finish their masterpiece.

Minions & Monsters debuts Wednesday, July 1, 2026 (Exclusively in Theaters and IMAX). Following Universal’s traditional theatrical windows, expect Minions & Monsters to make its streaming debut exclusively on Peacock in the late fall of 2026 before heading over to Netflix for a secondary streaming window in early 2027.
