Nearly 28 years after the original 1998 classic cast its spell on us, Practical Magic 2 makes its official wide debut in theaters today, Friday, September 11, 2026 (following early Thursday previews).
If you are wondering whether it is worth a trip to the cinema this weekend, here is the full scoop on the return of our favorite witchy family.
The Original Sister Witches Return
The absolute best news for fans is that the original star power is back. Sandra Bullock returns as the careful Sally Owens, and Nicole Kidman is back as the wild-spirited Gillian Owens.
To make things even better, Dianne Wiest and Stockard Channing are returning as the eccentric, chocolate-cake-for-breakfast-loving Aunt Jet and Aunt Franny. Seeing this core four back together is pure nostalgia.
What’s the Story This Time?
The sequel is based on The Book of Magic, the final novel in the book series by Alice Hoffman.
The story follows the family as they still try to navigate the infamous love curse that dooms any man who falls for an Owens woman. This time, the family has grown. Sally’s daughters are now adults, played by Joey King (Kylie) and Maisie Williams (Antonia).
When Kylie accidentally uncovers a dark, hidden family secret, the Owens women must stick together and travel across the ocean to England to confront the very root of their family curse. The movie also introduces new characters played by Lee Pace and Xolo Maridueña.
Directed by Susanne Bier, the film was intentionally crafted to give audiences a cozy, autumnal, “pumpkin spice” atmosphere perfect for the transition into fall.
Early reviews indicate that the film leans heavily into fan service and nostalgia. The overwhelming consensus is that the magical chemistry between Bullock and Kidman is just as strong as it was in the late ’90s. It’s a perfect excuse for a fun night out at the movies with friends.

Right now, Practical Magic 2 is a theatrical exclusive, meaning you won’t be able to stream it at home just yet. Grab your tickets for the big screen this weekend! Because it is a Warner Bros. discovery title, we expect it to land on HBO Max later this winter for your Streaming Movie Night.
