The Dog Stars (2026) – First Look!
Jacob Elordi & Ridley Scott Team Up for a Brutal Post-Apocalyptic Survival Epic
The post-apocalypse has never looked quite this breathtaking—or this heartbreaking. 20th Century Studios has officially unveiled the Trailer, Poster and pics for The Dog Stars, an atmospheric sci-fi survival thriller directed by the legendary Ridley Scott. Scheduled to hit theaters and IMAX on August 28, 2026, the film promises to be a devastatingly beautiful look at humanity, isolation, and survival at the edge of the world.
Based on the celebrated bestselling novel by Peter Heller, the film drops us into a world completely hollowed out by a lethal superflu pandemic. The story centers on Hig (Jacob Elordi), a grieving, soulful pilot who lives out of a hangar at an abandoned Colorado airfield. His only anchors to his former life are his single-engine Cessna aircraft and his fiercely loyal Blue Heeler mix, Jasper.
Hig shares this fragile sanctuary with Bangley (Josh Brolin), a ruthless, gun-toting military survivalist who handles the airfield’s security with lethal precision. Together, they defend their perimeter from desperate, roaming scavengers known as “Reapers.” But when a faint, mysterious human voice flickers through Hig’s aircraft radio, he decides to risk everything. Flying past his point of no return, Hig embarks on a dangerous journey into the unknown to see if a better life still exists.
Ridley Scott has anchored his wasteland with a phenomenal cast:
- Jacob Elordi as Hig, the broken-hearted pilot looking for a sliver of hope.
- Josh Brolin as Bangley, the ruthless, ultra-pragmatic security backbone of the airfield.
- Margaret Qualley as Cima, a mysterious fellow survivor Hig encounters on his journey.
- The Supporting Heavyweights: The movie boasts an incredible supporting lineup including Oscar-winner Allison Janney, Guy Pearce, and Benedict Wong
In The Dog Stars, the canine actor who plays Hig’s loyal companion, Jasper, is a highly trained Australian Cattle Dog (Blue Heeler) mix named Indy. To make their post-apocalyptic companionship look entirely authentic, Jacob Elordi spent three weeks living on a ranch in Colorado prior to filming just to bond with Indy.
Director Ridley Scott explicitly utilized special, low-profile camera rigs to shoot several sequences entirely from Indy’s point of view, allowing the audience to experience the eerie, quiet tension of the wasteland through the dog’s eyes. According to the production crew, Indy didn’t just follow basic commands; he was specifically praised on set for his ability to mirror Elordi’s somatic cues, naturally conveying expressions of fear, sorrow, and intense alertness during the film’s silent, atmospheric moments.
