Apple TV Doc Exposes the Dangerous Cost of Clout Climbing
Apple Original Films has officially unveiled the gripping first trailer for The Last First: Winter K2, an intense new documentary that takes an unflinching look at the changing, hyper-commercialized culture of extreme mountaineering.
Directed by acclaimed filmmaker Amir Bar-Lev (The Tillman Story), the film focuses on a harrowing 2021 expedition. It follows Icelander John Snorri Sigurjónsson and the legendary Pakistani father-son climbing team of Ali and Sajid Sadpara. Their goal? To claim the last great prize left in mountaineering: being the first to summit K2 in the dead of winter, when the mountain’s conditions are at their absolute cruelest.
However, what starts as a pure athletic race quickly turns into a crowded, dangerous circus. The elite team suddenly finds themselves sharing the treacherous, sub-zero slopes with wealthy commercial clients, influencer climbers, and massive film crews looking for social media content. As extreme ambition collides with online celebrity culture in an already unforgiving environment, the expedition quickly spirals into devastating real-world tragedy.
The Last First: Winter K2 looks like an absolute edge-of-your-seat nail-biter that raises massive questions about money, power, and class at the edge of space.
The Last First: Winter K2 premieres globally in select theaters and streaming on Apple TV on October 2, 2026.
