Now You See Me: Now You Don’t (2025) – Review

Ten years after the last performance by The Four Horsemen in Now You See Me 2, a trio of young Illusionists; Charlie Gees (Justice Smith), Bosco LeRoy (Dominic Sessa), and June Rouclere (Ariana Greenblatt) impersonate the Horsemen in a show they planned. Using Deepfakes and Holograms, they drain a corrupt Cryptocurrency Exchange Owner’s wallet and share the stolen funds. When they return to their hidden apartment hideout, they are surprised by the appearance of J. Daniel Atlas (Jesse Eisenberg).

He informs them that he was sent by the Eye, a secret society of magicians, via a tarot card to recruit them for a mission to steal the Heart Diamond from Veronika Vanderberg (Rosamund Pike), the head of a South African diamond company formed by her late father that provides money laundering services for criminals. J. Daniel and the three illusionists set up a plan to steal the Diamond at a private party in Antwerp. Just as the heist reaches its climax, the trio is stunned when the original Horsemen—Jack, Henley, and Merritt—emerge from the shadows, each holding a matching tarot card from The Eye.

After escaping from the heist with the diamond, they are left wondering what they are supposed to do next. They realize that the four tarot cards they were given might be their clue and when put together, the four cards direct them to the Château de Roussillon in France. Finding a metal puzzle as the front door, they have to solve the lock to open it. Inside they find a Museum of Magic, and Thaddeus Bradley (Morgan Freeman) who was told by The Eye to meet them there.

The chase is on as two generations of magicians race to expose Veronika’s criminal enterprise and she tries to stop them. But as the illusions get bigger and the stakes turn deadly, the film asks a classic Now You See Me question: who is pulling the strings, and who is just a distraction? Nothing is as it seems, and just like in the first movie, there are twists and turns you don’t see coming!

Now You See Me: Now You Don’t is a return to the real magic that made Now You See Me so good. Now You See Me 2 strayed away from that a bit and this was a welcome change from the sequel. There is plenty of real magic and history in the scenes in the Château, most notably Jasper Maskelyne. He was a British performing Magician who became known as The War Magician. He led a group of Magicians and Illusionists called The Magic Gang and succeeded in deceiving the Nazi’s through Grand Scale Illusions that helped win the war.

Seeing all of the original Horsemen together along with Lula, Thaddeus and Dylan was like a Now You See Me family reunion. And just like in real life, we have a couple of new kids around bringing their young energy into the mix. Whether you’re a fan of the classic sleight of hand or the high-tech heists of the future, this is the magic trick we’ve been waiting a decade to see. Don’t blink—you might just miss the best performance of the year!

Now You See Me 4 is currently in the writing process and Ruben Fleischer is returning to direct. Jesse Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson, Dave Franco, Isla Fisher, Lizzy Caplan, Justice Smith, Dominic Sessa, Ariana Greenblatt and Mark Ruffalo are all expected to return. Now that is looking like a blockbuster in the making, especially if they lean into real magic like they did in this one. I’m ready! Are You?

Magic Eye Poster

Can you see it? Here’s how to view the secret message in the poster:

  • Get Close: Hold the poster (or your screen) right up to your nose.
  • Unfocus: Do not try to look at the pattern. Instead, relax your eyes and stare through the image as if you are looking at something far in the distance.
  • Slowly Retreat: Keeping your gaze unfocused, slowly move the image away from your face.
  • Lock In: Once the blurry shapes begin to form a 3D shadow, hold your head still until the message “clicks” into focus.
