Apple Original Films Announces Definitive, First-Ever Authorized Fleetwood Mac Documentary ‘The Chain’
Apple Original Films has officially pulled back the curtain on one of the most anticipated music milestones in history, unveiling the official title and release date for Fleetwood Mac: The Chain.
Directed by five-time Academy Award nominee Frank Marshall (The Bee Gees: How Can You Mend a Broken Heart), the highly anticipated feature film is locked to premiere globally on Friday, January 19, 2027, streaming exclusively on Apple TV!
This marks a monumental moment for rock history: it is the first-ever fully authorized documentary made with the band’s complete cooperation and blessing. The release is timed beautifully to lead directly into the worldwide celebrations for the 50th anniversary of their landmark 1977 album, Rumours.
The film offers an unprecedented, deeply intimate look at the group’s dramatic highs and lows. For the very first time, the band members have handed over the keys to their own story, allowing the film to be narrated entirely by the unfiltered recollections, personal archives, and perspectives of Mick Fleetwood, John McVie, Lindsey Buckingham, Stevie Nicks, and the late, great Christine McVie.
The documentary tracks their uncompromising 50-plus-year history, starting from the fateful New Year’s Eve in 1974 when Buckingham and Nicks first joined the band, completely altering the trajectory of modern music.
Rather than shying away from the drama, the film dives headfirst into the chaotic, operatic personal relationships, heartbreak, and intense creative friction that fueled their studio sessions. It seamlessly weaves never-before-seen archival footage, rare studio outtakes, and raw, brand-new interviews to showcase the undeniable musical alchemy that went on to sell over 220 million records worldwide.
