Alex Gibney’s Massive ‘Musk’ Documentary Hits Theaters Friday!
Alex Gibney is finally dropping his most explosive project yet, and it’s hitting the big screen sooner than expected. This Friday, October 9, 2026, distributor Bleecker Street will officially launch Musk in select theaters across New York and Los Angeles, capitalizing on the massive buzz generated at its Venice and Toronto Film Festival premieres.
Clocking in at an epic 3 hours and 52 minutes, the documentary provides an uncompromising, deep-dive examination into the world’s richest man—tracking his trajectory from his early business roots to his dominant global influence over tech, satellite communications, and global politics.
With Elon Musk himself completely refusing to participate and actively threatening legal action against the film, Gibney builds a powerful portrait through a massive lineup of tech insiders, journalists, and personal relations.
The film’s most damning segments feature deep interviews with his ex-wife Justine Musk and conservative influencer Ashley St. Clair, who claims she walked away from a $40 million non-disclosure agreement to speak freely about her time in his orbit.
Tech journalists Kara Swisher and Zoë Schiffer also weigh in to analyze his controversial takeover of Twitter and his strategic alignment with national political figures.
In a bold and experimental formatting choice, Gibney utilizes an AI-generated avatar of Elon Musk to visually represent his digital footprint, online personas, and public posts. Combined with hours of real archival footage, the film presents a meticulous character study of power and ambition.
Following its limited theater run this weekend, Musk will roll out nationwide on October 16, with an eventual streaming home locked in on HBO.
