Guy Ritchie‘s latest action-thriller, In the Grey, is set for a wide theatrical release in the United States on May 15, 2026. The film, which marks another high-octane collaboration between Ritchie and his frequent stars; Henry Cavill, Eiza González and Jake Gyllenhaal, has finally locked in its debut after a series of distribution shifts and post-production delays.

Originally titled as “Untitled Action Project” in 2023, the film was previously scheduled for release in January 2025 and April 2026 before settling on its current May 2026 date. While Lionsgate originally held the U.S. distribution rights, they are now handled by Black Bear Pictures.

While In the Grey is not a direct narrative sequel to The Man from U.N.C.L.E., it is widely considered a “spiritual successor” by critics and fans alike. Industry reports suggest that with a direct sequel unlikely due to Armie Hammer’s exit and the original film’s modest box office, Ritchie pivoted to this new project as the “closest we will ever come” to a proper follow-up in that same universe.

In the Grey captures a similar high-stakes espionage vibe and reunites Henry Cavill with Guy Ritchie for the first time in a modern-day spy setting. Instead of the Napoleon Solo and Illya Kuryakin pairing, the film features Henry Cavill and Jake Gyllenhaal as elite extraction specialists who operate “in the grey” between legality and criminality.

The story follows a covert team of elite operatives who specialized in recovering stolen assets. When a ruthless despot, Manny Salazar (Carlos Bardem), steals a billion-dollar fortune, the team is dispatched on what most would consider a suicide mission: steal it back. What starts as an impossible heist quickly spirals into an all-out war of strategy, deception, and survival in a world where the line between right and wrong is blurred.
