20th Century Studios has officially released a “Special Look” behind-the-scenes featurette for The Dog Stars, offering an incredible look at the vast environmental design of the upcoming sci-fi thriller. Based on Peter Heller’s bestselling novel, the narrative follows pilot Hig (Jacob Elordi) and an ex-marine survivalist (Josh Brolin) defending their isolated enclave following a catastrophic global pandemic.
The newly released production footage emphasizes how the production utilized real, physical landscapes across the breathtaking Italian peaks to deliver a cosmic, overwhelming visual scale tailored specifically for large-format theater tracking shots.
20th Century Studios also released the “Cinematic Hero” behind-the-scenes featurette for The Dog Stars, highlighting the distinct, fast-paced filmmaking architecture driving the sci-fi thriller. The production video features actors Jacob Elordi and Josh Brolin detail how Ridley Scott commands up to 10 active cameras simultaneously on location.
The text and footage reveal that instead of relying on standard multi-take schedules, Scott sits inside his monitoring station to actively edit the movie in his head—mapping out on-the-spot sketches to translate the harsh, post-apocalyptic narrative directly onto the screen.
